KABAKA-MANILA WINS METRO MANILA LEG OF COCA-COLA YOUNGSTARS TOURNEY
Kabaka-Manila won the Metro Manila leg of this year’s Coca-Cola-PBA Young Stars basketball tournament, beating San Juan City 61-48 in the championship game Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Both teams will be representing Metro Manila in the National Finals slated May 19 to 25 in the nation’s capital and will be battling the regional champions from Southern Luzon (Cavite, Laguna and Batangas), Northern Luzon (Pampanga, Ilocos region and Pangasinan), Visayas (Cebu, Bacolod & Iloilo) and Mindanao (Zamboanga, Gen. Santos and Cagayan de Oro).
Desmond Santos, who was named Most Valuable Player of the Metro Manila leg, led Kabaka-Manila with his 22 points in the Finals with Tommy Gedaria backing him up with 21.
Kabaka-Manila settled the outcome of the game right in the first period where it outscored San Juan City 22-8 with Santos actually outscoring their opponents by his lonesome with his nine.
So dominating was Kabaka-Manila that its output through three quarters was more than San Juan’s score for the entire game.
