DYNAMITE DANNY S READY TO EXPLODE AGAIN
A familiar face from the San Miguel franchise has officially left the lair and jumped over the fence to its rivals.
After Talk ‘N Text’s gut-wrenching 114-111 overtime win over Alaska, Danny Seigle came out of the Tropang Texters’ locker room wearing a royal blue shirt, a definitive sign that he has already changed stripes from the San Miguel red to the Talk ‘N Text blue.
“I don’t pick any sides,” said the 37-year-old power forward. “It just happened that way.”
“I was without any team and they (Talk ‘N Text) were there and they offered me (a contract). I’m in a great situation, and I just have to take advantage of it,” he said.
The 1999 PBA Rookie of the Year remains upbeat even though critics claim that his age will be a factor once he returns to the court. But Seigle believes that he still has what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the best of the PBA.
“I definitely have some gas in the tank,” said the Wagner College alumnus. “In terms of how much, it still remains to be seen, I guess.”
With only one practice with the MVP-owned franchise in Seigle’s belt, coach Norman Black knows that his newest acquisition still has a lot of catching up to do.
“He’s fit. He looks like he’s in pretty good shape and we’re going to use our next three days of practice to try to get him educated about our offense and defense for him to have a chance to contribute,” said Black. “We took him in because we’re dealing with injuries, but we just have to have more depth so that guys who are injured could heal.”
The addition of Seigle in the lineup also causes some of his new teammates to be excited about how much he can bring to the table.
Kelly Williams said, “I’m hoping to learn a lot from him. I think that he’s one of the best players to ever play in the league. I’m excited.”
And that excitement won’t really be that long as Black has already stated that Seigle will suit up for their next game versus GlobalPort.
He said, “I’m pretty sure he’ll be in our lineup next game. I’m not really sure who we are going to bring down to the reserve list but he’ll definitely be there.”
Seigle, though, won’t take any chances until he finally sees that day when his number is called once again by the barker.
He said, “Hopefully, you’ll see me on the floor very soon.” (RLeongson)
