BEERMEN NOT TAKING BATANG PIER LIGHTLY
San Miguel Beer promises not to leave anything to chance as it tangles with winless cellardweller GlobalPort Monday in the PLDT Home TVolution PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Yes, our target is to make the Top Two, and we need to win as many games as we can. We’ll not take them lightly and we’ll just do what we need to do,” said San Miguel Beer coach Biboy Ravanes.
At 4-1 halfway through their elims campaign, the Beermen press their bid for the Top Two as they tackle the Batang Pier in the lone Monday game set at 8 p.m.
Winless in five starts under coach Pido Jarencio, GlobalPort’s focus is how to get over the hump.
Jarencio isn’t losing hope, believing they’re improving, though yet to find a way to pick up a “W.”
“Makakakuha din kami nyan,” said Jarencio.
Meanwhile, SMB coaching consultant Todd Purves said they’re looking to keep on winning and keep on improving.
“We’re trying to win some games and to constantly improve,” said Purves.
The Beermen made it two in a row with Kevin Jones as import and 4-1 overall as they fended off the Barako Bull Energy, 106-100, Saturday.
San Miguel Beer earlier topped Meralco, Barangay Ginebra and Rain or Shine.
GlobalPort, on the other hand, dropped all its previous games against Air21 (78-83), Alaska (77-93), San Mig Coffee (75-91), Meralco (99-104) and Barangay Ginebra (107-113).
Sol Mercado is back from an injury and is likely to play with fire in his belly against his former team. And so does Alex Cabagnot. (SB)
