MILLER TIME ONCE MORE
Willie Miller sure didn’t look like one who’s been out of the PBA for the past six months.
The two-time league MVP had 10 points behind 4-of-12 shooting from the field in the Tropang Texters’ 89-86 victory over Rain or Shine on Wednesday, his first game back since being left out of a roster spot at the start of the season.
Even fans knew that the Thriller is back where he rightfully belongs, bringing on the cheers the first time his name was announced by the venue barker.
But the 37-year-old guard admitted that the fast-paced brand of Talk n Text basketball did take a bit of a toll on him.
“Masyadong matulin yung basketball dito sa Talk ‘N Text,” he said. “Last time na takbuhan yung laro ko nung nasa Talk ‘N Text din ako nun from 2004 to 2006. From there, na-trade ako sa Alaska, slow break na lahat, puro pagulangan na lang.”
As much as he struggled to keep in pace, Miller said that it would just take him a little adjustment, given that he only joined the squad last Sunday.
“Yung first few minutes, depensa at takbuhan agad eh. Di na sanay yung katawan ko sa bilis ng tibok ng puso. Pero as a player, importante maka-adjust agad yung katawan ko,” he said. “Para kong pinupunit ang lungs ko eh.”
But he’s just happy to chalk up the win in his return game.
“Buti nga nanalo sa first game eh,” he said with a grin. “At least, di ako malas masyado.” (RL)
