SWEETER THE SECOND TIME AROUND
If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.
That mantra proved to be true for GlobalPort as a win ushered coach Pido Jarencio back as the head coach of the Batang Pier.
GlobalPort thumped Meralco, 92-73 as Jarencio’s second try at the lead role got off to a rousing start.
Yung pagbalik ko, sinuportahan nila ako and naging positive sa team,” the former UST mentor said.
Baring that injuries and the late entry of their reinforcements forced the squad to skip any tuneup games, Jarencio deflected the credit in GlobalPort’s victory to the players, who he said gave their all for the big win.
“Overall, it’s a total team effort. At the same time, yung mga changes allowed us na magkaroon na ng maturity yung team, which is positive,” he said.
Reduced as a consultant after an uneventful three conference run which saw him net only six wins in total, Jarencio said that it allowed him to reassess himself as a coach.
“Kahit paano, nakapag-reflect ako nung di ako nakapag-coach. Matagal din ako na nawala,” he said.
With a better start this time out, Jarencio is optimistic that the future is bright for this Batang Pier core.
Mag-iimprove pa kami,” he said. (RL)
