O’BRYANT OUT, THOMAS FILLS IN WHILE GLOBALPORT WAITS FOR FAMOUS
After two games, GlobalPort has decided to part ways with its 7-foot import Patrick O’Bryant.
Despite averaging 13.0 points and 17.0 rebounds in the Batang Pier’s first two wins this Governors’ Cup, O’Bryant was sent home in favor of Steve Thomas.
The statement from the team reads:
“The GlobalPort management and its coaches have decided to let the interim import Steve Thomas assume Patrick O’Bryant’s position while waiting for the team’s first option Jarrid Famous.
“Despite his well executed plays that brought GlobalPort its 2-0 lead, he does not fit with the team’s system and intensity of play. We are appreciative of Patrick’s contribution thus far, but a long term vision for the betterment of the team takes precedence.”
Thomas has suited up in the ABL with Hi-Tech Bangkok City and with the Indonesia Warriors, where he teamed up with top rookie pick Stanley Pringle.
He is expected to play on Tuesday against Purefoods Star.
However, Thomas will just be a stand-in import for the Batang Pier as the squad waits for the entry of former Meralco import Jarrid Famous, who is wrapping up his stint with the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League.
Famous averaged 26.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in his three games for the Bolts back in 2012. (RL)
