PBA Draft Focus: Diminutive Mark Cruz hoping to make an impression
People may look down on him because of his height, but Mark Cruz believes his diminutive frame could be his strength.
Listed at 5-foot-five, the Letran guard is the smallest to declare for the 2015 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft, but that does not deter Cruz.
“I’m a natural point guard and a playmaker,” he said. “My speed and the basketball I.Q., those are the stuff that I think would be my advantage,” said Cruz, who has been the undoubted leader for the Knights in the NCAA.
Though fancied in the collegiate ranks, the brother of ex-PBA player Marvin Cruz knows that there’s still a lot to learn as he makes his journey to the pros.
“For me, I still have lots to work out. I’m just going the flow right now and I think my play here in the NCAA is my chance to get noticed by the coaches in the PBA,” he said,
But Cruz is confident with that he can bring something to the table that could be worth a second look from the PBA teams.
“I think I can bring the composure in the pros. If ever I get picked, I don’t want to play differently than what I am doing right now. I know I’ll be a point guard and that would definitely be my role in the PBA.”
