Despite the sheer dominance of June Mar Fajardo, defending champion San Miguel Beer is trailing Rain or Shine in their best-of-seven semifinals series.
Fajardo is averaging 18 points, 18.3 rebounds and 3 blocks per game in the semis and yet the Beermen are looking to avoid a 3-1 hole against the shorthanded Painters in Game 4 on Monday.
The reigning MVP, however, remains positive that the Beermen will be able to pull it together the rest of the way.
“This is the best time for us to unite,” Fajardo said. “We lost but we can’t go on our separate ways. This is the best time for us to encourage each other.”
“We have to step up not only on offense but also in defense.”
The 26-year-old Fajardo had 38 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks in Game 2 before topping himself with a 40-point, 20-rebound night on Saturday but not even his numbers could carry the Beermen past the Painters, who played without one of their key big men in Raymond Almazan.
“The chance to win is still big,” Fajardo said. “We just have to bounce back, get the motivation from ourselves and from our teammates. We have to encourage each other and not go by ourselves even if we lose.”
