PBA honors Caloy Loyzaga
The Philippine Basketball Association on Wednesday paid tribute to Caloy Loyzaga, one of the country’s greatest basketball players ever, during halftime of Game 5 of the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup Finals between San Miguel Beer and Alaska at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Loyzaga passed away Wednesday morning. He was 85.
The league offered a moment of silence for Loyzaga, who earned the nickname “The Big Difference,” for his contributions on and off the court. Photos and a short video of him were also shown on the big screen.
Loyzaga was part of the Philippine team that made successive trips to the Olympics in 1952 and 1956.
He also led the country to a bronze medal in the World Championship in 1954 which up to this day stands as the best finish by an Asian country.
