RR Garcia rued the endgame miscues which proved to be the undoing for Phoenix in its 90-87 defeat to Meralco on Sunday.
“Lapses lang sa dulo (We had lapses in the end). Siguro di rin kami nakapag-adjust (We weren’t able to make adjustments),” he said.
Garcia’s frustration roots from a costly turnover in the waning seconds of the game where he threw a bad pass to import Kenny Adeleke in a pick and roll play.
That sequence could have tied the game at 89, but instead, allowed Meralco rookie Chris Newsome to make it a three-point game in the final 4.2 seconds.
Garcia explains that it was his call to make the pass, rather than take the shot by himself.
“Yung play talaga para sa akin (The play was really for me). Nalibre ako, humelp yung import ng Meralco kaya dinrop pass ko sa kanya (I got free and Meralco’s import helped that’s why dropped it to him (Adeleke). Siguro di nya inexpect na papasahan siya (I guess he didn’t expect that I will pass it to him). Nabitawan niya eh (He lost the ball). Desisyon ko yun eh (It’s my decision), Garcia said.
Garcia and the Fuel Masters remained positive despite the sorry loss.
“Okay naman kami (We’re okay). Nagkaroon lang ng lapses sa defense, lalo na yung import (We had lapses with our defense especially our import). Sa kanya kasi umaatake yung players ng Meralco. Di naman kami nakapag-adjust (Meralco attacked his defense and we couldn’t adjust to that),” he said.
