HOTSHOTS EYE TOP 4 AS ELITE HOPE TO END SEASON ON A HIGH

PFOODS-bwater blakely2

Depending on the outcome of the GlobalPort – Alaska tussle, titleholder Star is either chasing a spot in the Top Four or just trying to build momentum going to postseason play.

That’s what’s in store for the Hotshots as they play the Blackwater Elite in the penultimate playdate of the PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Whatever it is, coach Tim Cone vows they’re coming out to dish out their best.

The Elite promise to do the same with hopes of ending their first season in the pros on a winning note.

Blackwater import Marcus Cousin is extra determined, hoping to avoid a winless stint in the local pro league.

The Hotshots kept their slim chance of salvaging a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals on a 117-89 demolition of the Barako Bull Energy Sunday.

“It’s a good all-around performance. Everybody contributed. Hopefully, this could carry over to the Blackwater game and the playoffs,” said Star coach Tim Cone.

Victories by Alaska and Star allow the Hotshots to take the fourth seeding in the postseason play behind the Aces, the San Miguel Beermen and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

For Blackwater, it’s all about pride.

The Elite had a good chance of nailing a “W” Friday but blew away a 10-point lead in the last three minutes of regulation and lost in overtime.

This is their last chance to add a win in a forgettable 4-28 record in their maiden season in the league.

Win or lose, Blackwater is cinch to gain the top pick in the coming PBA Draft. Alas, the team has dealt the rights away to Talk n Text. (SB)
