Mahindra seeks to arrest 2-game slide

Only in its second season, Mahindra is now starting to turn things around for its franchise.

Cellar dwellers for the longest time, the Enforcers have stringed four straight wins before losing their last two.

And that was enough to change the league’s views on the team, something which is not lost on coach Chris Gavina.

“I think now, a lot of teams are definitely preparing their best, so we’re getting the teams’ best now. I think we’re no longer being overlooked,” he said.

But it doesn’t stop there, as Mahindra is still looking for its first post-season appearance after failing to qualify in the previous conferences.

The Enforcers, though, would inch closer in achieving that dream with a victory against Blackwater on Sunday in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Losing its duel against NLEX, 82-81 on Wednesday, Gavina is hopeful that Mahindra would get back to its winning ways.

“Our level of preparation has got to even go higher than how we started,” he added. “It’s a true test of our character right now, so really, that’s how great teams grow. We got to go through these lows to get to the highs.”

Part of that culture change should be attributed to the boost given by imports James White and Masshady Iman Zandi, and Gavina will once again bank on them to deliver for the 4-2 Enforcers in their 4:30 p.m. tussle.

Blackwater, meanwhile, is also hoping to have the same shift in mentality.

Despite the infusion of Denok Miranda to the Elite roster, they still weren’t able to down Meralco, 105-90 on Wednesday.

But coach Leo Isaac is optimistic to have injured import Eric Dawson back in the lineup as he hopes to bring Blackwater (1-5) out of the cellar.
