On-and-off Rain or Shine and a resurgent GlobalPort squad square off in a Petron Blaze Saturday Special in Legazpi, Albay, both out to improve their position in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Elasto Painters and the Batang Pier are barely in the middle of the chart as they at 5 p.m. at the Ibalong Centrum.
ROS head coach Yeng Guiao and his troops have slid to sixth place with two losses in their last three games. The Batang Pier, meanwhile, have gained steam following back-to-back wins after a woeful 0-4 conference start.
Earlier, the Batang Pier outlasted the Meralco Bolts, 126-123, in a double-overtime grind, then pulled a big upset with a 98-92 victory over the defending champions San Miguel Beermen.
“Gigil manalo ang team. Hopefully, we can get going against Rain or Shine,” said Globalport coach Johnedel Cardel.
Meanwhile, consistency has been the biggest problem for Rain or Shine, the lone team that has consistently made at least the Final Four of each of the last nine conferences.
Meager numbers from import Dior Lowhorn have not been helping the E-Painters.
Rain or Shine bowed to Barangay Ginebra, 87-101, the last time out where Lowhorn had only 10 points and eight rebounds.
Guiao was ejected in the Painters’ last two games because of outburst partly triggered by frustrations and disappointments.
The Painters need to settle down and get back on the winning track right away if they’re to contend for a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals.
