ANTIPOLO CITY. — Barako Bull gained a share of the lead with GlobalPort and Alaska, beating undermanned Commissioner’s Cup titlist Talk ‘N Text 100-87 Friday at the Ynares Center here.
The Energy got monster numbers from import Liam McMorrow to the tune of 26 points and a league conference-high 28 rebounds with an assist, a steal and shotblock each, leading his team to a third win in as many games, joining the Batang Pier on top (along with Alaska, which survived Rain or Shine 94-93 later in the evening).
It was the second straight conference with a 3-0 start for Barako Bull which also got double-digit outputs from JC Intal (14), RR Garcia (13) and Joseph Yeo (12).
The Energy, which outscored Talk ‘N Text 54-32 inside the paint, got some measure of revenge against the very same team which eliminated them in the quarterfinals of the last three conferences playoffs.
Still missing the services of injured starters Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo along with rookie Kevin Alas, Ryan Reyes and Aaron Aban, the Tropang Texters dropped to an even 1-1 slate, good for a share of fourth to sixth places in the team standings alongside defending champion Star and Kia.
