Arizona Reid continued to show that his early struggles this conference is nothing more but a couple of bad games as the dreadlocked dynamo paced San Miguel Beer to its second straight win, a 124-102 mauling of GlobalPort Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Reid’s 41 points on a 9-of-11 shooting from threes, to go with his nine rebounds was enough to bring the Beermen back to .500 as they improved to 2-2, while dealing the Batang Pier their first setback in four games in the season-ending Governors Cup.
Reid’s nine triples made equaled the league season-high previously recorded by Talk ‘N Text’s Jayson Castro and Ivan Johnson in this season Commissioner’s Cup and the all-time franchise record shared by Boybits Victoria (2002) and former import Lamont Strothers (2001).
Also, with his name cropping in trade rumors as of late, Marcio Lassiter responded with a strong 24-point output on a 5-of-7 shooting from rainbow country to the delight of head coach Leo Austria.
“I’m so happy with my players tonight because it seems like we’re on the same page. An amazing game for AZ and Marcio because in our first three games, you can hardly see them na taking those shots at pumapasok,” he said.

They also made sure that there won’t be anymore fightbacks from the Batang Pier camp after the break as Reid and Lassiter caught fire in the third period and scorched GlobalPort with a combined 35 points powered by their seven treys as San Miguel erected a lead as big as 31.
“These two kinds of players, ito ba ang iti-trade o papalitan mo? I think lahat ng coaches, yun ang kailangan nila na players. They were on fire tonight,” said Austria.
Chris Ross, in his fourth straight start this conference, added 17 points, seven assists, and four steals, while Alex Cabagnot chipped in 12, in a game where the Beermen shot 18-of-33 from threes, recording the second all-time most threes made in a game in franchise history.
Steve Thomas led GlobalPort with 21 points and 12 rebounds, as Terrence Romeo also got 21 markers. (RL)
