The Barangay Ginebra locals stood their ground against Globalport on the exit of their import Paul Harris due to a broken thumb, squeezing out a 93-81 victory on the second play date of the 2016 PBA Governors Cup over at the MOA Arena in Pasay City Saturday night.

Japeth Aguilar, Sol Mercado and Chris Ellis delivered in the crunch as the Gin Kings overcame huge numbers produced by Stanley Pringle, Dominique Sutton and Terrence Romeo for the Batang Pier.

Minus Harris, the Gin Kings made a key run from a 62-61 count at the start of the fourth quarter and held on for a triumphant debut in the season-ending tourney.

Still uncertain, however, was the status of Harris, a former champion import with Talk n Text, in their
next games.

Harris had made 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks against five turnovers before suffering a broken thumb late in the third period.

The Kings, however, played tough on the lost of Harris, surviving solid games by Pringle (26 points, six rebounds and three assists), Sutton (18 markers and 15 boards) and Romeo (15 points, three steals, two rebounds and two dish-offs).

Aguilar had a rousing return to the Ginebra camp from his Gilas stint, top scoring with 21 points coming off the bench.

Mercado and Ellis also thrived on off-the-bench roles, combining for 22 markers.
Romeo fired a trey just before the buzzer sounded as Globalport took the opening quarter at 30-25, then the two-year Gilas veteran buried a twinner in the dying seconds of the second quarter as the Batang Pier remained in the lead, 47-44, at halftime.

Pringle and Joseph Yeo stood at the forefront of their attack as the Batang Pier got to a 20-6 start before the Gin Kings got into the groove and raced ahead at 34-30 at the outset of the second period.

Romeo and Pringle were both 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and combined for 29 points in the first 24 minutes of action where the Kings were paced by Harris and Aguilar with 10 and seven, respectively.
