Ryan Roose Garcia just proved he’s worth whatever Star gave up to get him.

Garcia hit the game’s biggest shots to lift the Hotshots over GlobalPort 105-102 in overtime Sunday night in the 2016 PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The high scoring guard acquired from Phoenix for three players before the tournament laced his 26 points with a layup that forged extension before adding eight more in OT.

By the time Garcia canned two charities off a deliberate foul on Stanley Pringle, Star was up 104-102 and Mark Barroca applied the icing with a free throw, only 7.8 ticks left.

“I’m happy for the guy,” said Star coach Jason Webb of the former UAAP MVP who played his best game yet in his new team.

“We gave up a lot to get him and tonight he played like all the three players we gave up, combined.”

The victory was the first in three games for Star while relegating GlobalPort to a 0-3 slate and in the company of Phoenix at the cellar.

“We’re hoping this will turn things around for us,” said Webb.

New import Mike Glover had 27 points and 12 rebounds in his PBA debut and Terrence Romeo also wound up with 27. But he went 9-of-23 from the field, launching 10 more attempts than his former Far Eastern U and GlobalPort teammate.

Romeo also missed the chance to win it outright for the Batang Pier when he lost the ball on his way up for a jumper against Garcia in the dying seconds of regulation.

Although he started the game out badly, Marqus Blakely still managed to finish with 24 points and a conference-high-tying 22 rebounds.

PJ Simon chipped in 15 points highlighted by a booming triple that tied the game for the 17th time at 90, which Glover shattered with two freebies, only 14.7 seconds to go in regulation.

Plenty of time for Garcia to defy Romeo’s defense for a frontal attack and the shot he banked in, forcing extension.

Glover’s charity split put GlobalPort ahead for the last time at 102-100, but Marc Pingris scored underneath and the Batang Pier’s chances started getting dim when Simon intercepted Glover’s pass, leading to Pringle’s foul and Garcia’s go-ahead charities.

The scores:

STAR 105 – Garcia 26, Blakely 24, Simon 15, Barroca 11, Pingris 8, Maliksi 7, Sangalang 6, Mallari 4, Pascual 2, Reavis 2, Yap 0.

Quarters: 19-22, 42-44, 71-71, 92-92, 105-102.
