LEGAZPI, Albay – Globalport finally nailed a first-ever win on the road and closed in further on the frontrunners in the PBA Governors Cup with a 101-99 nail-biter over Rain or Shine in a Petron Blaze Saturday Special at the Ibalong Centrum here.

Terrence Romeo exploded for 33 points while Jay Washington made a huge tip-in off his own miss at endgame as the Batang Pier roared past the Elasto Painters, chalking up a third straight win following four successive losses.

Mike Glover and Stanley Pringle also came through with key exploits as the Batang Pier shot up to joint sixth place with the Elasto Painters and the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

Romeo, Washington, Glover and Pringle joined forces to hand Globalport a first win in 10 road games.

Rain or Shine could have forced overtime but Dior Lowhorn failed to convert a power play inside the paint in the dying seconds. The E-Painters, thus, suffered a third loss in their last four outings.

The Batang Pier stole the game with a 9-2 closing run highlighted by Washington’s tip-in with 27 ticks to go.
That Washington basket came after a good ROS defense, putting Globalport under pressure needing to make an attempt with 1.9 ticks left in the shot clock.

Washington missed a short stab on a perfect throw-in by Romeo but then beat everybody for the tip-in to push the Batang Pier ahead, 100-99.

Jericho Cruz missed from beyond the arc in the next play, then Yousef Taha split from the line for the final count.

The E-Painters took command most of the way, sitting on a 54-48 lead at the half as they enjoyed a 16-7 advantage on points off turnovers.

The Batang Pier committed 19 errors, taking some luster on Romeo’s 22-point first-half explosion. Romeo, Glover, Pringle and Joseph Yeo accounted for three errors each.

But Romeo and his teammates settled down in the second half and stayed right behind the E-Painters before stealing the game at the finish.

Down by five at 92-97, Glover, Romeo and Taha made a basket each as the Batang Pier spurted ahead at 98-97 with time down to 1:08.

Washington finished with 11 points that went with three rebounds, one assist and one steal in 22:17 minutes of action.

Winning their last three games against tough teams Meralco, San Miguel Beer and Rain or Shine, the Batang Pier pursue a fourth straight win versus the TNT KaTropa Texters Wednesday at the Big Dome.
