BOWLES BACK SUNDAY TO RESCUE STRUGGLING COFFEE MIXERS
The Monster Bowles is back to rescue the slumping defending champions San Mig Coffee Mixers.
Denzel Bowles, last season’s Best Import, is scheduled to arrive on Sunday, according to SMC insiders.
The Coffee Mixers lost their first two games this conference, but coach Tim Cone isn’t losing hope and is confident the man who steered his squad to the championship in the same tournament last season can turn things around for them.
“We’ve only played two games, so we feel we have plenty of time to get ourselves right with Denzel. We’re certainly not strangers to slow starts,” said Cone in a text message to pba.ph.
Bowles will replace Matt Rogers, who played for only one game.
Rogers, the Spanish League veteran, missed his squad’s first game and was hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning. In his first and only game with the Coffee Mixers, he failed to impress his squad, forcing Cone to press the alarm button and bring in Bowles.
Bowles was supposed to suit up for the Coffee Mixers from the start of the tournament but he wasn’t able to secure a release from his Chinese Basketball Association squad right away.
He is expected to make his PBA return on Friday against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. (RJ)
