NBA PRESEASON GAME A BIG BOOST TO BASKETBALL-LOVING PINOYS – SALUD
Bringing the NBA to our shores is definitely a big thing for the basketball-loving Filipinos.
This is specially true for Pinoy dribblers who are dreaming to make it to the big league someday.
PBA commissioner Chito Salud believes that by staging an NBA preseason game in the Philippines, the Filipinos’ self-confidence is somehow given a boost to continue to pursue the ultimate dream of finally playing in the NBA.
“I see this type of event inspiring a cadre of future players to play at an even higher level than what we are seeing today in the PBA and strengthening our self belief and confidence that someday we will see a Filipino play in the NBA,” Salud said.
The hardworking commissioner was likewise happy to learn that the NBA, the world’s most popular basketball league, is considering the possibility of inking a tie up with Asia’s pioneering professional league.
According to Salud, the tie up would enhance the marketing and business development programs of both leagues.
“Yes, we will sit down with NBA Asia led by Scott Levy to explore creative ways of pursuing marketing and business development programs between the two leagues,” added Salud.
“The global basketball community knows how big basketball is in the Philippines.”
A tie up with the PBA is therefore a marketing dream for any league which wants to increase its exposure and equity in an exciting and growing region such as Asia.
“There are no specific initiatives now, but I won’t rule it out.”
Salud’s comments come on the heels of Levy’s early interview, saying the NBA would love to find more ways of working together with the PBA.
The PBA chief believes the staging of the NBA preseason game emphasizes the country’s significance in the world basketball map.
“Together with our hosting of the FIBA Asia Championship in August, this is a recognition of the Philippines’ growing significance and stature in the global and regional basketball sports community and calendar,” said Salud. (RJ)
