BOOSTERS TO TRY SIMS OUT
Hardly getting a lift from Rodney White, Petron Blaze is taking a look at former Georgetown Hoya Henry Sims who is set to fly in Wednesday.
“Who Petron will use on Friday is the coaches’ call. Management has supported them with the tools to win,” said an SMC official.
The Boosters tangle with the Meralco Bolts in a crucial tiff Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, hoping to check a two-game skid to stay in the running for a Top Two finish in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round.
Petron, currently in third place with a 6-4 win-loss slate, lost its last two games to Talk n Text and Alaska without significant help from White.
Thus, the management is bringing in Sims as possible import replacement.
Petron recruited Sims from the Erie Bayhawks team in the NBA D-League. The 6-foot-10 center/forward did well as a Bayhawk, enough for him to be named to the Prospects All-Star roster for the 2013 NBA D-League All-Star Game.
On March 3, Sims was signed to a 10-day contract by the New Orleans Hornets. Released on March 12, the Baltimore, Maryland native returned to the BayHawks.
Sims, who turned 23 only last Wednesday, suited up with the Georgetown Hoyas from 2008-2012 and played in the 2012 NBA Summer League with the Utah Jazz and the Chicago Bulls.
He signed with the New York Knicks but was waived at the end of the preseason. (SB)
