I FEEL AT HOME IN ROS – TENG
Though expected to go early in the Rookie Draft, 6-foot-2 guard Jeric Teng fell out of the first round and right to the lap of coach Yeng Guiao and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, who selected him No. 12 overall.
But the misfortune to many is seen as a blessing in disguise by the former UST King Tiger, more so hat he will be playing alongside familiar faces in the E-Painters squad.
“I’m very happy that I got drafted by Rain or Shine kasi (it almost feels like a) Chinese community. I feel at home,” said the 22-year-old second generation star, who will come to the team owned by magnates Raymond Yu and Terry Que.
Aside from the owners, the team also has Xavier alumni in Chris Tiu and TY Tang in their fray.
Also, former UST Growling Tiger Jervy Cruz is also in the team, making the son of “Robocop” Alvin Teng comfortable in his new lair.
“Marami akong kakilala sa team,” he said. “At least, when I practice with them, di na ako maninibago dahil medyo kilala ko na yung mga players.”
Going back to the team’s Chinese roots, Teng said that he is proud to be a part of the long lineage of basketball players that came from Xavier School.
“I’m very happy,” he said. “I’m proud of my school dahil maraming players na galing sa Xavier, because there, the priority is still education, pero bilib ako sa Xavier na maraming players mula sa amin ang nakaabot sa PBA.” (RLeongson)
