FEU backcourt tandem Terrence Romeo and RR Garcia missed out the honors of being in the Top Four in the last PBA draft exercise.

Romeo was plucked from the pool at No. 5, then Garcia at No. 6.

That doesn’t mean, though, that they’re no longer deserving of the maximum contract allowed in the pro league.

“We believe in them. Our future is in their hands,” said Globalport owner Mikee Romero announcing they’ve easily come to terms with their top draft picks.

Both were accorded an initial three-year package worth P8.5 million – the maximum allowed for a PBA rookie.

They are guaranteed of a basic monthly pay of P150,000 in the coming PBA season, P225,000 next campaign and P337,500 in the third year.

Globalport didn’t take long, too, to sign Justin Chua, LA Revilla and Jopher Custodio.

Yet to be concluded is Globalport’s contract negotiation with Nico Salva.

“We’re the youngest team and I’m excited of our future,” said Romero.

Over at Rain or Shine, draftees who have inked pacts are Alex Nuyles and Jeric Teng.

“We can’t reveal the financial terms but both players are delighted,” said Rain or Shine top executive Mert Mondragon.

Raymond Almazan has yet to get a deal as the RoS management opted to let the 6-foot-7 behemoth focus his attention with the Letran Knights’ campaign in the NCAA first.

Team owners Raymond Yu and Terry Que insisted they don’t want to distract Almazan while playing out his final season with the Knights.

“We hope he gives Letran a championship before joining us,” said Yu.

“We want him to experience an NCAA championship. We want him to win a crown before leaving his school. We support him in his goal,” said Que.

Whatever happens, though, Almazan would be sure of the maximum three-year package of P8.5 million.  (SB)
