YOUTH VERSUS EXPERIENCE
That has always been the case when two teams bannered by stars on the opposite sides of their career spectrum square off.
And rightfully so, that will be the underlying storyline when the Air21 Express take on the GlobalPort Batang Pier in the opener of the Christmas Day doubleheader of the 2014 PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup.
The Express and the Batang Pier are both coming off sorry losses and would like to change their fortunes at the expense of the other. Game time is at 5:45 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Bannered by the rejuvenated Asi Taulava and Joseph Yeo, the Express eye to end their three-game skid to salvage their season, where they sit at the bottom of the standings with a 1-8 record.
Air21 lost to Talk ‘N Text last Sunday, 82-87, where their late charge powered by Yeo, Nino Canaleta, and Mac Cardona fell short in the end game.
For its part, GlobalPort dropped a close game against San Mig Super Coffee last Friday, 80-83, but they didn’t go down without a fight.
Young veterans Sol Mercado and Jay Washington paced the Batang Pier, but it was their sensational rookie duo of RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo who had chances to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, both of their three-pointers fell short, sending GlobalPort back to earth as its franchise-best three-game win streak was halted, ending up with an even 4-4 card.
Will the Express’ Christmas gift be their second W? Or will the young guns of GlobalPort send their elder counterparts pouting on Christmas Day? (RL)
