HEARTBREAK KIDS COLLIDE
They say close games toughen the team in the long run. And come Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena, two teams coming off heartbreakers clash, both are out to end their 2013 on a good note.
The skidding GlobalPort Batang Pier meet the equally sliding Barako Bull Energy in the 2014 PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup at 3:00 p.m.
Coming off of a tough 103-109 overtime Christmas loss to the Air21 Express, the Batang Pier look to stop the bleeding and put an end to their two-game losing streak.
But despite the close defeat against the Express and San Mig Super Coffee prior, GlobalPort guard Sol Mercado still can see the positive side of their season.
“We’re still in good shape,” he said. “We lost a few tough ones, but we’re there. Were 4-5 and we’re in a position to bounce back.”
Mercado will once again be joined by Jay Washington, and rookies RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo to get the Batang Pier back on track.
On the other hand, Barako is eyeing to rebound from a 95-99 loss to Rain or Shine last Friday, when they mounted a comeback after being down by as much as 15, only to fall short in the end game after a torrid shooting night from Jeff Chan.
For his part, Willie Miller said that despite their setbacks, the Energy only need to get their chemistry going to get their head on the right mindset.
“Alam ng mga teams na may chance kami parati, na kahit tambak kami, humahabol kami at may mga runs kami,” he said. “Yung chemistry lang talaga ng team, yung mga lapses kasi dun nakikita eh. Yung mga errors sa huli, missed passing, yung depensa, doon lahat.”
Miller added, “Pero sabi namin, pag ganto lagi yung nangyayari sa atin at binaon natin yung ulo natin, mas lalong sasama yung performance natin.”
Barako Bull is currently in ninth place with a 3-7 record. (RL)
