It’s about fighting for position and building momentum for the playoffs as Talk n Text and San Mig Coffee square off in the PLDT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday.

Both have secured playoff spots but are out on the fight for the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

At 7-5, Talk n Text is sure to figure in the best-of-three quarterfinal series. The same thing will be pursued by the San Mig Coffee Mixers as they clash with the Texters at 8 p.m. in the third to the last playdate of the elimination round.

FEATURED STORIES

At 6-7, the Mixers are still in danger of finishing at seventh or eighth if they lose their final assignment in the elims.

On the other hand, a win gives the Mixers a chance to snatch fourth place from the Tropang Texters.

The Mixers come into the game riding the momentum of a three-game streak highlighted by a 112-93 mauling of the Petron Blaze Boosters Wednesday.

“It’s one of those nights where everything comes together for you. There are nights like this, and it happened in a very fortunate time for us,” said San Mig coach Tim Cone.

“Hopefully, we can build on this. It doesn’t guarantee us of anything except the quarters. We still need to come out and have a good turnout against Talk n Text,” Cone also said.

For the Texters, their last two games have become inconsequential following their ouster in the race for the Top Two on Rain or Shine’s victory over Meralco also Wednesday night.

“Right now because our position in the standings is pretty much set, it’s all about trying to establish momentum going into the playoffs,” said Talk n Text coach Norman Black.

He hinted resting injured players and trying to get them ready for the playoffs.

“We are struggling a little with injuries, but we will be out there fighting to win. Kelly Williams, Ryan Reyes and Noy Baclao will be back for the playoffs,” said Black.

The Tropang Texters are again out to find good rhythm, having lost three of their last four games. They brace for the quarterfinals playing San Mig Coffee Friday and Barangay Ginebra on Sunday. (SB)
