Members of the PBA board open themselves up for a dialogue with national coach Chot Reyes Thursday, a talk geared towards possibly easing the conflict of the PBA calendar with Gilas Pilipinas’ training program for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

“Coach Chot must first explain his plans and requirements, then we’ll discuss all these,” said PBA board chairman Mon Segismundo on the eve of their meeting with the Philippine national coach.

“The PBA is willing to help and support. The PBA knows it’s a national endeavor and that the Filipino pride is at stake here. The PBA is willing to provide fullest support, but we also need to consider all the stake holders – the fans, the PBA, the team owners,” the league chair also said.

Segismundo doesn’t discount the possibility of the league bending backward again to accommodate Gilas Pilipinas’ request, though.

“At the end of the day, the PBA understands we have to have a competitive team. I’m pretty sure we would come up with an agreeable solution,” he said.

Reyes is to appeal that members of Gilas Pilipinas be made available full time to the national team three months before the world joust in Spain set Aug. 30-Sept. 14.

“I’m presenting two or three scenarios. The most ideal is three months of training. Yun din yung hiningi namin last time, at binigyan kami ng two months,” said Reyes.

“Sana bigyan kami ng three months this time since we’re preparing for two tournaments,” Reyes added.

From the World Cup, Gilas Pilipinas goes to Incheon, Korea for the Asian Games slated Sept. 19-Oct. 4. (SB)
