Can’t blame Talk n Text to aspire for nothing less than a Top Two finish in the PLDT Home TVolution PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round.

The Tropang Texters suffered a sad experience after missing a twice-to-beat advantage in the last Philippine Cup.

And on a hot 5-0 start in the current tourney, a Top Two finish is really a realistic goal for coach Norman Black and his troops.

They look to put further distance against the rest of the field as they clash with the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the 5:15 mainer of the Sunday card at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Whatever success we’re having now we want to continue that,” said Black after they made it five in a row on a 91-68 rout of the Meralco Bolts Friday over at the Cuneta Astrodome.

“It’s important for us to get as many wins we can and get the Top Two. It’s the only advantage you’ll have in the format of this tourney,” Black added.

Talk n Text was relegated to a best-of-three quarterfinals matchup with San Mig Coffee in the last conference as the Texters and the Mixers finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the elims.

Establishing great momentum in the playoffs, the Mixers disposed of the Texters in their quarters duel and went all the way to win the Philippine Cup crown.

But the Texters have regained their winning ways since that debacle, and are now in good position to top everybody in the Commissioner’s Cup elims.

While Talk n Text looks to stretch its unbeaten romp, Ginebra, on the other hand, hopes to go above .500 at 3-2.

Leon Rodgers poured in 33 points and got the needed help from his local temmates as Barangay Ginebra snapped a two-game losing skein by repulsing Globalport, 113-107, Friday.

“We’ve regrouped after back-to-back losses to San Miguel Beer and San Mig Coffee. We hope to sustain whatever gain we’ve had as we play Talk n Text,” said Ginebra coach Ato Agustin.

Talk n Text could well be a tough test for Ginebra, though. (SB)
