DUE DILIGENCE ON APPLICANTS
Commissioner Chito Salud will meet with top officials of the three companies bidding to become expansion teams in time for the PBA’s 40th year Monday.
In separate meetings, the lawyer league chieftain will personally talk to bosses of Columbia Autocars, Blackwater Sports and NLEX Road Warriors to ask pertinent questions on various matters, including finances and the ability to maintain a team for the long run.
“Kaunting tanong lang naman yun. Tapos syempre may mga discussions na rin na kaunti. Tapos yung mga magiging sagot nila as well as their financial status will be presented to the Board,” said Willie Marcial, PBA’s media bureau chief.
The Board of Governors will have the final say on the applicants’ fate.
The PBA currently has ten teams, but as early as now, fans have been eagerly monitoring the developments on possible league expansion.
No less than current Board chairman and Meralco Bolts governor Ramon Segismundo has been very aggressive in luring new companies to invest in the PBA, one of the most powerful marketing tools in the country.
“That’s the legacy of my tenure that I want to leave. It’s part of my 8-point plan,” said Segismundo, who is ably assisted in his endeavor by Smart Sports head Pato Gregorio. (SBadua)
