GREAT FIT
After an early hiccup in his first game with the Beermen, Kevin Jones has led San Miguel Beer to three straight victories in the 2014 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
And it is evident that the 24-year-old has already made great strides jelling with his new teammates.
“I’m very happy with my team,” Jones said. “We play together well and we share the ball. We always have a whole team performance. Everybody who comes in contributes for the team. I can say that we play well on the court.”
Though for some, the level of physicality in the PBA is off the charts, Jones said that it was never an issue for him, as his stint with the Canton Charge in the NBA D-League has prepared him well for the banging of bodies that awaited him in the PBA.
“I came from a league where it’s really physical. I’m kind of used to that style,” said Jones, who was named as a D-League All-Star this year. “The bigger issue for me was blending with the style of my teammates and jelling with them.”
Coming in to replace first-choice import Josh Boone, Jones was deemed as a better fit for the Beermen, with June Mar Fajardo coming in from a sprained left ankle.
The 6-foot-8 forward praised his big guy, as he said, “It’s always great to have a guy like him who you can throw the ball down and we can get easy points. When I get the ball, I’m always looking for him and it opens up our offense.”
For his part, Fajardo also gave credit to their reinforcement, saying, “Magaling siya. May shooting siya sa labas at may threat din sa loob. Maganda para sa amin si Kevin.”
“Wala kaming problema sa kanya. Mabait siya at lagi lang nakangiti, so nahahawa kami sa pagiging masiyahin niya,” Fajardo added.
Jones has no doubt that the Beermen have what it takes to win it all this conference.
“We’re a great fit,” he quipped. (RL)
