Larry Fonacier and Marcio Lassiter are just two in the star-studded cast aiming to outshoot and dethrone Chris Tiu in the Three-Point Shootout on All-Star Friday.

Though labelled by Tiu as one of the fiercest competitors shootfest, TNT sniper Fonacier said, “Wag kang maniwala sa kanya. Siya yung defending champion, so siya yung aim naming talunin. Di totoo yung sinasabi nya.”

For his part, SMB’s Lassiter said it’s more than just shooting the balls from five spots on the court. It’s playing through the nerves and simulating the importance of every basket, while at the same time, having fun.

“I guess when the lights come on, you’ve got to be ready to play,” Lassiter said. “I think everyone’s going to have jitters. I’m going to have some jitters. Everyone wants to play and perform good in the All-Stars.”

Armed with a reputation of being a dead-shot from beyond the arc, Fonacier bared that in the tons of three-point competitions he has joined, he always went home empty-handed.

“Sobrang dami ko nang sinalihang three-point shootout, di naman ako naging successful so di ko alam kung bakit pa ako binibigyan ng chance na sumali,” a laughing Fonacier said.

“Pero this time, I’ll just make the most out of it and do my best, and whatever the outcome is, I’ll be happy with it.”

Though he has been shooting the lights out in their past few games for Talk ‘N Text, Fonacier said that his current streak “isn’t a guarantee.”

“I work hard in practice, so bahala na if it goes into the game or not.”

Lassiter was quick to remind that the All-Star Weekend’s main goal is to give back to the adoring crowd.

“This is really a treat to the fans. I’m just happy to be here and I hope that we’ll be giving a good show to the fans,” he said.

When Super Marcio was asked who he thinks should be the favorite in the competition, he said, “Who? You mean all of them?”

“They’re all great, and it’s going to be a good contest to see,” Lassiter said. (RL)
