GOING FOR THE KILL

Winning has been a habit for Talk n Text for quite sometime now that it seems that in every single game, a different Texter steps up to the plate.

Case in point: Nino Canaleta.

The many-time Slam Dunk champ waxed hot in the early goings of their game against Rain or Shine, scoring 13 points in the first quarter and finished with 19 on 3-of-7 shooting from rainbow country to go with eight rebounds, and more importantly, set the tone in Talk ‘N Text’s 85-82 win on Wednesday, its eighth straight in the Commissioner’s Cup.

But for the former UE Red Warrior, it’s about time that he finds his shooting stroke to help Talk ‘N Text’s cause.

“Nakuha ko lang yung rhythm ko. Siguro yun din yung hinihintay ng Talk ‘N Text na makatulong ako. It’s about time na rin na medyo nakakatulong ako sa team,” Canaleta said.

The 32-year-old also added that being a part of the festivities in this year’s All-Star Game helped him in more ways than one.

“Nakatulong sa akin yung All-Star kasi nakapagpahinga din ako,” he said. “Nagshu-shooting lang kami ng ibang All-Stars, pang-warm up lang. Di naman challenging. For fun lang talaga.”

“Sana nga yung performance ko tonight, di mabati at magtuloy-tuloy,” said Canaleta.

With the winless GlobalPort the only one standing in Talk ‘N Text’s way for a nine-game eliminations sweep, “KG” hopes that their blazing run will roll on to the playoffs, even though their import Richard Howell’s status is still up in the air.

“Tapusin lang namin yung eliminations on a winning note para madala namin yun sa playoffs,” he said. “Momentum din kasi yun para sa amin eh. Baka pag matalo, mag-iba yung ihip ng hangin.”

“Go for the kill pa rin kami. Go for the sweep sa eliminations.” (RL)
