Former Best Import winners Marqus Blakely and Arizona Reid lead a stellar cast of imports that will do battle in the coming PBA Governors’ Cup.

San Mig Super Coffee chases a third straight Governors’ Cup Finals with Blakely while Rain or Shine looks for another fighting performance with Reid.

Blakely, who led the Mixers to a runner-up finish behind the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in 2012 then to a successful title run last year, will be back for another tour of duty in the PBA, more seasoned and experienced at 25.

“We’ve had successful runs with him. He is the reigning PBA Best Import, and we want to give him the chance to defend the title and his personal accolade,” said San Mig Coffee top official Rene Pardo.

Though still handicapped by injuries, the Elasto Painters, meanwhile, are hopeful of another strong showing with Reid in tow.

“We’re bringing back AZ. He could still be the smallest (among all imports) but we’re used to it. We’re okay with him. I’m comfortable with him,” said RoS coach Yeng Guiao of the former two-time Big South Conference Player of the Year who has led Rain or Shine to a pair of Final Four finishes in the season-ending PBA tourney.

Meanwhile, Talk n Text is bringing in three-year NBA veteran Othyus Jeffers, Alaska is enlisting 2008 NBA Draft No. 47 pick Bill Walker while Meralco is tapping former New Jersey Net, Houston Rocket, Sacramento King and Boston Celtic Terrence Williams.

Jeffers shared with Ron Howard the MVP honors in the most recent NBA D-League season and then joined the Minnesota Timberwolves – his fourth NBA team after the Utah Jazz, the San Antonio Spurs and the Washington Wizards.

The Chicago, Illinois native suited up for three collegiate teams – Los Angeles Southwest, Illinois-Chicago and Robert Morris U.

He concluded his collegiate career with Robert Morris in 2008, averaging impressive numbers of 24.0 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a senior.

He led the RMU Eagles to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) championship and was named as the CCAC Player of the Year. He then played in the NAIA basketball tournament, leading the Eagles to the Final Four, where they were defeated by Concordia University. Despite failing to win the championship, Jeffers was named as NAIA Player of the Year by The Sporting News and as co-Player of the Year the Basketball Times.

Walker also holds an impressive resume, a Kansas State U stalwart selected by the Washington Wizards as the 47th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Shortly after the draft, he was traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for cash considerations.

In 2010, he was acquired by the Knicks in a deal sending Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry to Boston.

In four NBA seasons where he played a total of 157 regular season games, this 26-year-old West Virginian normed 5.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 assist.

He had his best season with the Knicks in 2010 where he played 27 games, starting in 13, averaging 11.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists. (SB)
