Will Rodney Carney finally come out to bring out the goods expected of him?

That’s the question begging for an answer as Carney plays his second game with Talk n Text versus San Miguel Beer in the PLDT Home Telpad PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

His performance – good, decent or bad – could well be crucial in this much-anticipated tiff set at 5:15 p.m.

Carney, the replacement to Othyus Jeffers, huffed and puffed in a 13-point debut with Talk n Text Wednesday night at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna. The TnT locals carried much of the fight as the Texters decisioned the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 83-81.

FEATURED STORIES

“We are looking to get a more productive performance from Rodney Carney now that he has had a couple of practices with us,” said Talk n Text coach Norman Black.

“We haven’t really seen the full potential of their new import. He may have probably adjusted already by tomorrow (Saturday). We just have to be ready,” said San Miguel Beer coach Biboy Ravanes.

San Miguel Beer is out to regain solo second place at 4-1 while Talk n Text, now at 2-1, is out to move up to joint second while relegating the Beermen to the middle of the chart.

“We’re looking to ride our momentum from last game. Talk n Text is coming from a win, too, so they’ll have their own as well,” said Ravanes, expecting a tight game.

“We hope to play the type of defense we played versus Rain or Shine with emphasis on slowing down June Mar (Fajardo), (Reggie) Williams, Arwind (Santos) and (Chris) Lutz,” said Black.

San Miguel Beer beat out Barako Bull in a virtual three-point shooting contest in the crunch, pulling off a 115-112 win in overtime in its last outing. (SB)
