DOGFIGHT IN BIÑAN
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Rain or Shine both ride the momentum of a runaway victory the last time out as they face off in a crucial game Sunday, each one pressing its bid to make the Top Four of the PLDT Home Telpad PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations.
The Kings seek to regain a piece of the lead with the Talk n Text Tropang Texters while the Elasto Painters look to inch closer to the front runners as they collide at 5:15 p.m. at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
Both teams soar high following authoritative victories over the Barako Bull Energy and the Alaska Aces in their last outing.
In the most lopsided win by any team in the league in nearly three decades, the Elasto Painters blasted the Aces into pieces, 123-72, at the Philsports Arena Wednesday.
On Tuesday over at the Mall of Asia Arena, the Kings sprang back strong from a lone defeat so far, clobbering the Energy, 98-70.
Those wins by the Elasto Painters and the Kings line them up for an expected dogfight.
Ginebra tries to formalize entry into the playoffs and at the same time enhance hopes for a twice-to-beat bonus as it goes for a fifth win in six games.
Having shaken off a losing start in the conference, Rain or Shine is out to get going and muddle up the fight for the Top Four.
The Elasto Painters, a team that has become a perennial contender under coach Yeng Guiao, hit the .500 mark following back-to-back wins over the Energy and the Aces.
Rain or Shine has actually won three of its last four games, picking up a good rhythm following a 0-2 start in the season-ending tourney.
Guiao is not about to gloat, though.
“We’re still struggling,” he said.
“But, of course, we’re happy we’ve picked up some wins. At mabuti nakakuha kami ng momentum going to our game against Ginebra,” he also said.
Cariaso also hopes to make good use of the fire of their win against Barako in tangling with Rain or Shine. (SB)
