BINAN, Laguna – Allen Durham delivered what was expected from him in his PBA debut, helping Barako Bull snap out of a five-game funk in an out-of-town duel with fellow back-to-the-wall team Globalport at the Alonte Sports Arena here Sunday.

Durham came through with a triple-double job with 32 points, 24 rebounds and 10 assists, giving the Barako Bull new zest as they totally outclassed the Batang Pier, 122-98, to tie the Meralco Bolts at eighth place entering the homestretch of the PBA PLDT Home Telpad Governors Cup elimination round.

The Euro League veteran, taking over from Eric Wise, did his job with no frills, leading the Barako Bull Energy to a second win in seven games.

Durham completed his triple-double PBA debut with his 10^th assist with over three minutes left to play. Then he got his rest to hearty applause from the Barako bench.

Dropping huge spreads in their last two losses, the Batang Pier would be spared of the same experience in this game since they wouldn’t taste the lead even once and would fall way behind early in the contest.

Denok Miranda, JC Intal, Hans Thiele and Keith Jensen also put in double-digit outputs for the Barako Bull who sent the Batang Pier to a sixth loss against a solitary win.

Getting better spacing with Durham’s authoritative presence at the paint, the Barako Bull rained down 13 triples on the Batang Pier.

Barako Bull went 13-of-24 from beyond the arc and converted 48 of its 85 field attempts overall. The Energy got a lot more attempts with their 49-34 domination off the boards.

Miranda, Jensen and Willie Miller rifled in two three-pointers each to highlight Barako Bull’s hot start that saw them lead by 21 points before closing the first quarter at 38-20.

Miller knocked in his first trey upon entry to give the Energy the 21-point spread at 31-10.

Durham took over in the second period, piling up 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists as the Energy kept a double-digit advantage, 59-47, at the half.

Terrence Romeo, Jay Washington and RR Garcia unloaded their own outside bombs as the Batang Pier came to life and rallied to within six at 35-41.

The Barako Bull, however, quickly doused cold water on that Globalport rally.

Mick Pennisi and JC Intal took their turns to fire three-point missiles in the third period spiking another big Barako Bull run that had the Energy enjoying couples of 26-point bulges.

And the Barako Bull would be relentless all the way to the finish. (SB)
