After an uneventful rookie season with GlobalPort, RR Garcia looks forward to new opportunities with Barako Bull.

Traded on June 20 in a one-on-one deal for Keith Jensen, the 24-year-old playmaker hopes that he’ll do better in his new home.

“Sa akin siguro, dun ako mabibigyan ng break talaga kasi nalipat ako,” he said. “Sa GlobalPort, in and out ako dun. Siguro dito sa Barako Bull, maipapakita ko na yung skills ko.”

After immersing himself in the Energy’s practice sessions and assessing the situation, the Zamboangueño dribbler is optimistic he can be of more help to his new team.

“Tingin ko mabibigyan ako ng kumpyansa dito kasi puro rookies ang point guard like si Jeric Fortuna. Andun din si Kuya Denok (Miranda), tiga-FEU yun eh. Sya yung naga-advice sa akin dati, so siguro makakatulong ako sa team nila,” said Garcia, also a former King Tamaraw.

Barako Bull already resumed their practice just this week, and Garcia said he already feels at home.

“Ok naman kami ngayon. Conditioning pa lang kami. Wala pa masyadong pukpukan na practice,” he said.

Looking back on his first year as a pro with the Batang Pier, the 5-foot-9 guard said that he just showed a little of what he can do in his limited time on the floor for the Mikee Romero-owned squad.

“Siguro on a scale of one to 10, mga six lang nung rookie season ko. Napakita ko naman yung kaya ko pero hindi every game naipapapakita ko yung best kasi minsan nasa bench ako, minsan nasa loob ako. Konting minuto lang naibibigay sa akin,” he said.

Garcia hopes that this year would be different.

“Ngayong second year, dodoblehin ko pa. Siguro ngayong season, maibibigay ko na lahat.” (RL)
