ALAS STILL UNSURE OF JOINING DRAFT
One day before the deadline of applications for the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft, Kevin Alas is still weighing his options.
“Undecided pa rin eh,” the 22-year-old guard said in a short text message to pba.ph.
Alas is coming from the amateurs boasting an impressive resume, from Letran in the NCAA to the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League, where he was named the 2014 Aspirants’ Cup Most Valuable Player.
The 6-foot scorer is also a Gilas cadet who saw action with the bronze medal-winning squad in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup in Wuhan, China just last month.
Alas is a possible top-five pick if he puts his name with the draft hopefuls, as teams are aware of his scoring prowess and his much improved playmaking skills.
Coach Louie Alas, Kevin’s father, has already given his two cents’ worth in his son’s possible move to the pro ranks.
“I told him that this is the best time for him to join the Draft. But it’s Kevin’s call,” said Alas, who also serves as an assistant coach for the Alaska Aces.
The deadline for rookie applications is tomorrow, August 13, while the PBA Rookie Draft is on August 24 at Robinson’s Midtown in Ermita, Manila.(RL)
