PRINGLE, ROSSER, HERUELA SHINE IN DAY 2 OF 2014 GATORADE PBA DRAFT COMBINE
Prospective number one pick Stanley Pringle, Gilas cadet Matt Rosser, and D-League standout Brian Heruela were the bright spots in the second day of the 2014 Gatorade PBA Draft Combine on Tuesday at the Gatorade Hoops Center.
The 6-foot-1 Pringle topped the 3/4 court sprint, registering 3.06 seconds, and was followed by Heruela, who recorded 3.09 seconds.
“It’s an honor to be considered one of the top prospects in the Draft. I just wanted to come out and do all the skills tests here in the Combine,” Pringle said.
Meanwhile, the Cebuano Heruela was the best in the lane agility drill after finishing the test in just 8.57 seconds.
“I think I showed what I got in the camp today. I did well in the skills challenges so I feel pretty confident,” said Heruela.
Rosser made it to the top 10 of all five skills test, and landed first in standing vertical leap after tallying 36.18 inches and also led the maximum vertical leap after jumping 68 inches. He was second in the lane agility drill (8.75 seconds), fifth in the 3/4 court sprint (3.17 seconds), and eighth in the shuttle run test (17.55 seconds).
Rosser said, “It’s pretty cool knowing that I made it to the top 10 in all categories. There’s a lot of athletic guys in this Draft class so it’s just an honor to be there.”
Juami Tiongson was the fastest in the shuttle run test after finishing the course in just 17.2 seconds.
In the scrimmages, Team A downed Team B, 31-28, behind the 11-point output of Erwin Pateño and Jan Jamon’s eight markers.
Jeff Viernes captained the losing squad with nine points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Maclean Sabellina paced Team D with his 12 points to help his squad take a 49-23 victory over Team C.
Anthony Semerad added eight points on an efficient 4-of-5 shooting for the game for the winning squad.
Mar Villahermosa led the losing squad with eight points.
The 2014 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft, also sponsored by Robinson’s Midtown Manila, Sexy Chef, Iwata, Magnolia Purewater, Grilla, Shrimp Shack, The Old Spaghetti House, Inewvasion, JJ Sports Bar, Li-ning, Sbarro and Dunkin Donuts, is set 4 p.m. this Sunday at the Robinsons Midtown in Ermita, Manila.
