WE’LL PICK PRINGLE AT NO. 1 – GLOBALPORT COACH PIDO J
GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio bared that GlobalPort will indeed grab 6-foot-1 guard Stanley Pringle as the first pick in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft set on August 24.
Observing the Draft hopefuls in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Draft Combine, Jarencio categorically said that there are no more doubts in the Mikee Romero-owned franchise on to who they will tab as the first overall pick in the annual rookie selection.
“Wala na. Wala nang tanong dun. Pringle na talaga,” he said.
The 27-year-old former Penn State standout will be taking his smarts to the Batang Pier, who struggled mightily last conference despite having Alex Cabagnot, Jay Washington, and Terrence Romeo in their fold.
Though many people are wondering how Pringle would blend with the current GlobalPort guards, Jarencio doesn’t see any problem, saying, “Bat naman hindi? Mas bibilis kami. Pringle will play at the point, tapos si Terrence will be at two guard.”
Aside from the top selection, the outspoken coach also said that they are also looking at potential sleepers in the Draft, as the Batang Pier owns the 17th and 19th picks, which were acquired from the recent Eric Menk trade to Alaska.
“Tinitignan lang natin kung sino yung available pang talent. Covered na namin almost all the positions. Ang iniisip lang namin is sino yung magagaling na rookie dito,” Jarencio said.
Jarencio added that there isn’t anybody in mind for their second round picks and they are just keeping their cards to themselves.
“Hindi ko masabi yung mga tinitignan namin kasi di mo rin masasabi kung sino yung talent na maiiwan. Yung teams, nagiisip na rin kung sino yung makukuha nila. Kung may gusto ka rito, tapos di mo makukuha sa Draft, eh di magpapalit ka ng plano.”
He added, “Basta sa amin, kahit ano na, kahit sino ang available na magaling, yun ang kukunin namin.” (RL)
