ENERGY ON THE LOOKOUT FOR BIGS
Barako Bull coach Siot Tanquingcen was on hand in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Draft Combine as he scouted possible selections for the Energy.
Owning the number three overall pick and two more first rounders, Tanquingcen said that his squad’s need is really in the frontcourt.
“We’re basically looking for a big man. We’re looking at everybody and we’re evaluating everybody,” he said.
With an already loaded backcourt, Tanquingcen has the unenviable task of picking who he believes will mesh well with his charges. And in this guard-heavy Draft, their needs might have to take a backseat in exchange for the best talent available.
“It’s guard-heavy. Ang strength ng pool na ‘to is at the guards, pero tignan natin. Ang need namin is sa bigs talaga eh,” he said.
So far, Tanquingcen said that Chris Banchero has really impressed him after topping the skills tests in the Combine.
“From what I heard, si Chris Banchero is number one sa lahat ng categories,” he said, adding, however, that this would not be a free pass for the Fil-Italian guard in their roster. “We’re looking at the whole package eh. We’re looking on how he will play with our team.”
“We’ll see. We still have to discuss it.”
The Energy own the third, eighth, and tenth pick in the first round, as well as the third and sixth selections in the second round. (RL)
