Though many people pegged him as a surefire top three pick in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft, a surprising turn of events led Chris Banchero to fall to Alaska at number five.

The Aces are only too glad to net the 6-foot-1 playmaker. And Banchero feels the same way.

“It feels great. I’m happy to be in the PBA. I’m happy that someone chose me and I can’t wait to get going,” he said.

The Seattle Pacific University standout said that he didn’t delve too much in the speculations going into the Draft and he just relishes the idea that he will finally be able to play in the pro league.

“I really had no idea where I was going. Again, I’m just happy to be in the PBA and continue my career,” said Banchero.

When asked what he can bring to the table with Alaska already having a wealth of backcourt players in JVee Casio, RJ Jazul, and Raphy Reyes, the 25-year-old Banchero said that he’s just sticking to his strengths.

“I’m a point guard. I’m there to make my teammates better. I’ll try to bring as much offense and defense every night,” he said.

He added, “I know they have a bunch of guards there and I’m excited to play with them. I’m excited to join that team because I know they always go deep in the playoffs every single year.” (RL)
