For coach Alex Compton, Alaska’s haul in the 2014 Gatorade PBA Rookie Draft is no fluke.

“We spent six-and-a-half hours on Saturday to prepare for the Draft. Di ‘to tsamba lang. You can say tsamba na rin, but with the way it turned out, it was great,” he said.

The Aces nabbed Chris Banchero at fifth in the first round, and got Rome dela Rosa at 13th overall and Junjun Alas three rungs lower.

“It went exactly according to plan,” Compton said.

“Going through who we knew was going to pick where, we’d be surprised that Chris Banchero would drop to five, but we’d take him if we could. We’d be surprised if Rome dropped to 13, but we’d take him if we could. And we thought we can get Junjun at 16. So with the way everything happened, its perfect. It was exactly how we planned.”

With the groundwork laid after the draft, it begs to see if Compton and the Aces can finally get it right this coming season and give Alaska a championship once more. (RL)
