ALAS TO TNT IN LATEST 3-TEAM DEAL
Just ten days before the PBA unveils its 40th season, league commissioner Chito Salud approved a new three-team trade.
In the latest player movements, high profile rookie guard Kevin Alas moves to a third team even before playing his first game in the pros. He now has Talk n Text as his new home, shoring up the Tropang Texters’ talented but aging backcourt.
The series of swaps had TNT first moving KG Canaleta to Blackwater for the Elite’s 2015 first round draft pick. Blackwater then dealt Canaleta to NLEX, and the Elite got Alas in return. Finally, the Texters acquired Alas from Blackwater for Larry Rodriguez and TNT’s 2015 first round draft pick.
The veteran Rodriguez gives Blackwater a steady presence up front, a valuable addition since the team may miss rookie Frank Golla, who could sit out at least three months to correct a recently-discovered heart ailment.
NLEX likewise walked away happy from the rigodon as Road Warriors head coach Boyet Fernandez had been wanting to get the high-leaping Canaleta, who will give the NLEX offense a different look with his solid outside sniping and slashing ability. (SBadua)
