Twenty-seven points. Nine-of-ten field goal shooting. Five-of-six from threes. Seven rebounds. Three assists.

That near perfect game was the one dished off by Arwind Santos when he led San Miguel Beer to its third straight win, a 103-89 victory over Barako Bull on Sunday.

“First time ko yata magkaroon ng ganung kataas na percentage sa floor. Siguro dumarating lang sa tao yung ganung klaseng laro,” Santos said.

FEATURED STORIES

The win enabled the Beermen to grab a share of the top spot, an early indication that San Miguel might finally be on the right path.

Santos said that he can’t really pinpoint a reason for their past failures but he thinks that their chemistry, or the lack thereof, was one of the factors in their shortcomings.

“Di ko rin alam yung nangyari nung mga nakaraang conference namin. Ang alam lang namin, sobrang lakas ng team, kulang pa yung jelling. Siguro andun na rin yung pag-underestimate ng kalaban kasi alam naming malakas kami, pero di namin magawa. Kaya ganun yung nangyari sa amin, nalampaso kami,” he said.

And the Kapampangan forward hopes that with those lessons in tow, they can finally break out of their funk and reclaim their lost glory.

“Yung goal namin ngayon, maiksi lang yung conference, malaki ang chance namin kasi All-Filipino, kaya sana makuha na namin,” said Santos, also the team’s skipper.

“May kahihiyan din kami sa mga supporters at management. Ginagawa nila lahat para sa amin, pero kami, di namin maibigay yung karapat-dapat kahit Finals appearance man lang. Ako, frustrated din ako pero di ko dapat isipin kasi maaapektuhan ako, so move on, and every time na may opportunity like ngayon, sana wag masayang.” (RL)
