Bouncing from one D-League team to another, Karl Dehesa knew he had the makings of a player who can compete in the PBA.

Just like every one biding his time for the pros, he knew he just needed a break.

And with expansion team Kia Sorento looking for someone to help in its initial conference in the league, Dehesa got the break he was hoping for.

After three games with Kia, the undrafted guard showed what he’s made of, being a consistent contributor for the Sorento, highlighted by his 14-point performance against Talk ‘N Text.

“I’m thankful to the coaches for always believing in me since day one, plugging me in there, and trusting me to make stuff happen. I always stayed ready and stayed prepared,” Dehesa said.

The 6-foot-3 combo-guard got his shots early on against TNT, scoring six points in the first quarter as the Sorento stayed in step with the Tropang Texters in the first half.

“When I’m open, I’ll shoot it. That’s what the coaches told me to do and I’m just lucky they went in,” he said.

Though Kia went on to lose that game, it was still a positive night for Dehesa, as he notes that the team and himself are improving as the days go by.

“Coaches told me to play my game. They told me to focus on what I had to do and stuff will happen. They want me to create for my teammates and for myself as well, and play defense,” he said. “They can expect me to continue to play hard every night.” (RL)
