TEXTERS, HOTSHOTS JOCKEY FOR PLAYOFF PLACINGS
Talk n Text and Purefoods Star both have the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals in mind as they slug it out in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.
The former all-Filipino conference three-peat titlist and the reigning four-peat champ square off at 7 p.m. with both chasing a spot in the Top Six at the end of the one-round-robin elimination phase.
At 6-3, the Tropang Texters seal the deal with a win over the Hotshots.
A win by Purefoods, on the other hand, will have the Hotshots putting one foot into the Magic Six.
It’s a battle between two teams which have recovered from a fumbling start in the tourney.
The Texters ride a two-game run going into the game versus the Hotshots who had been on a four-game romp until being stopped by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters the last time out.
The E-Painters sustained the momentum of their own hot streak in subduing the Hotshots, 83-74.
Coach Tim Cone hopes that they recover right away and finish strong in the elims, avoiding complications of possible ties at sixth place.
They’re currently at sixth at 5-4, just half game ahead of the GlobalPort Batang Pier (5-5) and a game up on the Meralco Bolts (4-5).
Purefoods has beaten both. Disastrous for the Hotshots is a tie that will involve the Barangay Ginebra Kings to whom they lost by 23 points. (SB)
