KAILANGAN PAHINGA, PERO DI PWEDE MAWALA SA KUNDISYON – BELGA
Despite being hobbled by injuries for a big chunk of the eliminations, Rain or Shine managed to string up seven straight victories to end up with an 8-3 card and bag one of the two outright semifinals spot in the Philippine Cup.
And one of the biggest reasons for that is Beau Belga, as he powered the Elasto Painters to the semis with his stellar shooting night against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday.
“Sabi ko lang kapag nalibre ako, tira. Eh nagkataon na yung first two shots ko sa three points, libre talaga, so in-attempt ko lang,” Belga said. “Nung na-shoot, sabi ko baka may kasunod pa. Nung nasundan, baka may pangatlo.”
He added, “Di naman ako pagnakaka-shoot, parang ang gusto ko sundan pa eh. Hangga’t nakaka-shoot lang. Pag nagmintis, ‘di maghanap naman ng ibang puwesto. Depensa na pagbalik.”
All in all, he drained four treys in his six attempts, scoring nine in the payoff period to finish with 21 points in Rain or Shine’s 100-90 win over the Gin Kings.
With the team set to enjoy a long break with the automatic semis berth, Belga hopes that their squad can use this to recuperate from their injuries and be stronger in the Final Four, as they gun for a third straight Finals appearance in the Philippine Cup, and hopefully, win the title for good.
“Kailangan yung pahinga, pero hindi pwede mawala sa kondisyon,” he said.
“Nangyari sa akin last season, nag-semis din kami tapos nag-relax na ako eh. Kung baga, nakuntento na ako sa semis. Tapos nag-Finals kami, parang wala na ako sa kundisyon, madalas na ako mapagod.” “Ngayon, hindi na pwede yun.” (RL)
