BARAKO SENDS PENNISI TO PUREFOODS FOR HOLSTEIN, MATIAS
Purefoods has just bolstered its frontline with the acquisition of grizzled veteran Mick Pennisi from Barako Bull.
The 6-foot-9 three-point shooting big man will be joining the depleted Hotshots squad, which is in dire need of help in the paint after Ian Sangalang got sidelined with a torn ACL early this conference.
In the trade approved during the weekend and formalized Monday, the Energy got seldom-used sophomore Isaac Holstein and well-traveled veteran Ronnie Matias in exchange for Pennisi.
Pennisi is averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on a 27-percent shooting from three-point land in 25 minutes an outing for Barako Bull.
Holstein hasn’t really gotten his bearings in one season for Purefoods, while Matias has been a rare gem off the bench for the Hotshots when they clinched the Grand Slam in the Governors’ Cup last season.
Interestingly, Purefoods and Barako Bull wrap up their eliminations assignments on Tuesday, with both teams jockeying for playoff position going into the quarterfinals. (RL)
