TNT-gin slaughter

Talk ‘N Text sent Barangay Ginebra packing in their knockout quarterfinal clash on Tuesday, and it took coach Jong Uichico to go out of the box to nab the victory by stretching his players’ minutes on the floor.

Jayson Castro, to cite one, logged 29 minutes on the floor, but fortunately, the Blur delivered the Tropang Texters the win with his 23 points, eight in the third, and four assists. And he’s just fine with that setup.

“Yun ang kailangan namin eh, to sustain our defense and disrupt their offense. Bawal mapagod para madisrupt namin yung triangle nila,” Castro said.

And as they barge into the semifinals with San Miguel Beer waiting in the wings, Castro is hoping that their efficient shooting will roll on to the latter stages of the tourney.

“Sana ma-carry over,” he said. “Yun lang ang target namin every game, efficient field goals kasi dun kami nagdedepend eh. Pag di kami nakakashoot ng three-points and long shots, wala naman kaming post threat eh so dun kami nagrerely.”

The Kapampangan spitfire is also hoping for a deja vu of sorts to their 107-101 victory over the Beermen, as they brace for their best-of-7 series.

“Last game namin sa kanila, maganda kasi na-stop namin si June Mar. Yun yung similarity nila with Ginebra kasi may big guys sila. We need to spread the floor lang kasi maliliit yung bigs namin,” Castro said.

He also noted the re-entry of Alex Cabagnot to the San Miguel fray which will definitely make an impact in this series.

“This coming semis, ganun pa rin ang adjustment namin. May mga small things na adjustments pa, pero sana makuha namin in the end.” (RL)
